Insecurity

Recent data from the USDA and leading anti-hunger organizations show that about 47.9 million people lived in food insecure households in the United States. The most current studies from 2023–2024 indicate that food insecurity remains a significant and growing challenge nationwide.

The numbers include:

  • 14.1 million children lived in food‑insecure households in 2024, according to data released in early 2026. This marks a slight increase from 13.8 million in 2023.

  • 33.8 million adults experienced food insecurity, meaning their households struggled to access enough nutritious foods.

  • About 1 in 7 U.S. households (13.7%) faced food insecurity in 2024. These households lacked consistent access to enough foods for an active, healthy lifestyle.
